411 Teen Health was established in 2007, by The Community Foundation and concerned local citizens. The mission of 411 Teen Health is to empower teenagers with relevant and educated resources concerning sexual, mental and physical health issues.
411 Teen Health conducts presentations in the community, specifically within schools, after school programs, churches and other community organizations to talk with teenagers about teen related issues. 411 Teen Health also educates teenagers about the importance of abstinence and safe sex, utilizing a sex education curriculum.
411 Teen Health attends special community events and offers teen health tip information as well as a resource guide to aid teens and parents in finding help for various situations. 411 Teen Health has established FREE “Condom Kit Pick-Up Sites” at various local businesses throughout the community, in efforts to reduce the teen pregnancy rate and sexually transmitted diseases amongst youth within Decatur/Macon County. (written by a current peer educator)
Being a Planned Parenthood Peer Educator is a job that has changed my life. Everyday I go to school and try to answer the pressing questions the students around me have. I am one of twenty peer educators here in Decatur and have gone through 60+ hours of training. I am apart of the 27th peer group here in Decatur and Decatur is fortunate to have a program like the peer education program. Everyday I help students and give answers to their wildest questions. In addition to this I meet once a week to continue to learn new things and to keep up to date on teen issues. The job started in June and at the end of the summer I had to pass a comprehensive test with an 80% or higher. I am not just another kid making up statistics and repeating what I have seen on the internet, I am a trained peer educator that can help any teen with there problems. Anytime you see a peer educator do not be afraid to ask for help and never forget the stupidest question is the one you never asked. Peer Edcuators can be located at any high school in the county. For more information, email us or ask us a question on our Facebook page.
