What’s in Your Budget?

Have you ever sat down and wrote out your personal budget before? Have you added in things like your income from your job and then subtracted expenses like your car payment, gas, entertainment such as going to the movies or out to eat and spending money on clothes? Now, have you ever thought about how much it would cost to have a baby and the expenses to care for it for its first year, or the next 18 years for that matter?

Once you’ve finished completing the baby budget, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Can you afford a baby on your current budget?
2. If you got pregnant or if you got somebody pregnant, what sacrifices would you have to make in order to support the baby?
3. Are you mature and responsible enough to be a mother or a father at this point in your life?
4. If your relationship fails, can you handle being a single parent?
5. If you have a baby at this point in your life, how do you plan to continue on with your educational goals?
