How does someone get pregnant?
A woman can become pregnant be having unprotected vaginal sex with a male. For a pregnancy to occur, semen must be deposited into the vagina and then travel to meet the egg and fertilize into an embryo.
What are some possible signs and symptoms of pregnancy?
Late, very light, or missed period
Nausea and/or vomiting
Weight gain
Dizziness
Fatigue (feeling extremely tired)
Spotting or cramping
Swollen or tender breasts
Darkening of the areolas (area around nipples)
Headaches
Dizziness or fainting
Being bothered by smells
Mood swings
Bloating
Pregnancy Testing:
Home pregnancy tests are available in stores without a prescription. For the most part, they are accurate. However, if the first test you take is negative, and you are still experiencing symptoms, take another test within a few days to one week later. If the test results are positive there places that you can go to get help and information about your pregnancy options. They include going to your family doctor, Planned Parenthood or the Community Health Improvement Center (CHIC). (refer to Find Help)
What’s the best way to prevent pregnancy?
Abstinence (not having sex)
Using barrier and non-barrier methods of protection (condoms and other birth control)
